Idea Help: Solar Powered Random Nature Sound Device

For the longest time I have always wanted to build a device that would randomly play sounds of birds and crickets. The device would of course be located outside and would gather it’s power from solar power that would recharge the batteries.

During the day the device would randomly play the sounds of various bird calls and at night, triggered by a light sensor, would play random cricket sounds.

After doing a bit of research I found that you can purchase ISD Chips that can hold a good bit of sound data. Not sure though if these types of chips would be the best for this project.

What I am looking for is guidance or just pure imaginative thinking from others on how something like this could be accomplished.

Details below:

• Solar powered with rechargeable battery
• Bank of various bird sounds
• Bank of various cricket sounds
• Randomizer that would calculate which sound to play at random intervals
• Light sensor to turn on/off cricket/bird sounds

The main reason for the randomizer for the sounds and timing is so that you can achieve a more natural sound instead of just a irritating loop.

Any help would be appreciated!

Jeremy Holmes grew up in Cooperstown and studied at the State University of New York at New Paltz where he graduated with a BFA in Sculpture in 2007. After graduation he was awarded a Windgate Fellowship, which has allowed him to travel the country and be a full time sculptor for the last year. The Art of Jeremy Lipking

After watching the movie, “The Lonely Maiden” I was captivated by a piece of art that was the main feature. It didn’t take long for me to find the artist who created the piece and was absolutely stunned to find out that the painting had been done in the past year by a very talented artist, Jeremy Lipking.

Browsing through his site was an absolute joy as I discovered more great works by him such as “Porcelain”, “Reclining Nude Figure”, and “Danielle”.

I only wish they the prints came in posters as I think I would have to paint the whole house in them.

The India Shop Newspaper Bags

The India Shop, located in England, is a gift shop that specializes in Fairtrade products. One item though that stands out in their vast collection are these newspaper bags that are entirely made from recycled newspapers and Bollywood movie posters!

The India Shop writes, “The organisation was started in 2004 by street children who wanted to give something back in return for the opportunities which had allowed them to escape desperate circumstances. These elder children, now married with children of their own, generate an income by making newspaper bags and jute items. This allows them to take care of thirteen street children that they have saved from the streets surrounding Delhi train station. Support for this wonderful project means that these children can enjoy going to school and playing, rather than pulling rickshaws, shoe polishing, rag picking and worse.

The newspapers are collected by bicycle rickshaw calling at residential homes for any read newspapers. This is why sometimes your bag will have a completed crossword!”
