The Art of Phil Blank

Comstock Load - Copyright Phil Blank

Comstock Lode

Goodbye Virginia City
And these tall Nevada pines
I’ll marry my soul to a ghost town
When I lay me down to die

Wisht I had a copper coin
For all the gold I’ve known
I’d trade it all to a highwayman
For a half a pint of rum

This old gold has took my soul
And left me for the tomb
I spent my last nickel on a whiskey still
What else would a miner do?

All I got’s this old grey mule
Two blankets & some rum
She rode me all the way to Reno
I’ll trade her for a pistol gun

Goodbye Virginia City
And these tall Nevada pines
I’ll marry my soul to a ghost town

Even though my son was born with a some-what large head which he gets from his big brained dad Phil Blank seems to be fixated on painting humans and animals alike with them as well. His art is quite imaginative and dreamy but also dabbles on the line of delusional. To top it off, Phil also has some excellent writing to go along with some of the paintings. Link

December 8th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Website, Writing

RJ Evans over at Socyberty.com has a fantastic write-up about a lesser known sidekick of Santa known as Krampus. Since Santa seems to have a big heart, even for naughty boys and girls, he just can’t bring himself to punish the kids and that is where Krampus steps in. With a whip that will leave some begging for more but most crying in pain, Krampus delivers the punishment for those that deserve less than coal and sticks. Link

You Are Not Dead, A Guide To Modern Living Project

December 6th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Website, Writing

You Are Not Dead was born out of fraughtful observations of the state of our States and the repetitive, empty monotony of consumer culture and electronic music. The entire package is a protest against the meaningless decisions we are asked to make daily — between products, between paychecks, between political candidates — that conflate choice with free thought and individuality. You Are Not Dead apes the voice of authority, presenting absurd advice on how to live — or, more accurately, how to remain Not Dead. Which you must be.

You Are Not Dead: A Guide To Modern Living is a project of the Fakeproject Corporation of America and a product of postmortem life. The music and images were conceived and produced by Daniel James Reetz, and the words fell out of Meg Holle. Link
