The Geometric Art of Douglas P. Hill

October 21st, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Artist, Digital Art

Hello, I’m Douglas P. Hill of Etna, NH, USA, and this site is centered around my geometric art.

I’ve enjoyed making geometric art for at least 30 years, but this took on a sharper focus in 2004, when I began developing my personal tools to produce Patterns of ReflectionTM Geometric Art. This technique starts with a photograph or other artwork. Carefully selected triangles or other polygons are cut from it and arranged in a new pattern, so that at each edge, the piece of image is placed against its own reflection, like a kaleidoscope. Unlike a kaleidoscope, the reflection patterns can be complex and of multiple shapes, with some areas of great order and other areas of disorder. Other people make kaleidoscopic images using commercial tools, their own tools, or laborious effort in Photoshop, but I think I have explored this realm to a degree unmatched anywhere else today.

The Music of Jonas Hellborg and Shawn Lane

October 18th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Music

Jonas Hellborg’s music is as unique as his personal philosophies. The Swedish bass virtuoso and composer refuses to be bound by the rules of convention. He even rejects typical notions of creativity and improvisation and instead sees himself as one who simply reflects the earthly forces and realities that surround him. Link

Shawn Lane – It started for the Memhphis kid at age 4 by accompanying the vocal lessons of his mother and older sisters, playing cello in school, and taking piano lessons. He picked up the guitar at age 10, and realized he did a lot better on that instrument. Progressing very fast, he was playing blues rock in clubs around Memphis by the age of 12. Link

The Art of Yumiko Matsui

I have been making paper sculpture since 2006. The catalyst for this change was seeing dollhouses created by my aunt with her husband when I retuned home to Japan on vacation. I realized I really like miniature worlds. Link
